Today I am going to write about the "Arabigo" costa rica coffee variety. Simply put, this is the oldest coffee variety to be found in Costa Rica, and most likely the one that was imported from Cuba in the 18th Century. Our great grant parents brought the seeds to the Costa Rican Tarrazu Valley and the plants prospered in the wet-dry environment that characterizes the Costa Rican Pacific coast mountain slopes. It is a rather simple tree, tall (About 3 meters in its maturity) and does not yield much coffee beans a year ( compared to the "Caturra" variety. There are proven evidence that this costa rica coffee variety is the one that gives the best cup, based on acidity and body. What is more stricking about this coffee plant is that it survives even below huge tropical trees and possesses an unique strengh to resist fungus and plagues that decimates the other coffee plantation trees.
